Keywords:
Survival Mechanism, Farmworkers, ElderlyAbstract
The elderly often face health, social, and economic challenges, which often lead to them being considered a burden. However, in Mancung Village, West
Bangka, many elderly people still work as farm labourers. This study aims to
identify the reasons why they continue to work and the survival mechanisms
they use. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and James C. Scott's theory of Peasant Moral Economy, this study found that the main factors for older
people to work are livelihood dependency, culture, health, and the principles of kinship and care. They survive by continuing to work on farms, using their own land, receiving social assistance, going into debt, and relying on relationships with fellow labourers and garden owners
